Both short-term and standing
committees are the center of action in the Chapter. In this day and age of
fast-paced living and crowded schedules, people need bite-sized tasks and
short-term projects to feel ready to volunteer. So, in addition to the
traditional committees described below, the chapter board identified a list of
10 ways to help the chapter. The board hopes this will make volunteering simpler and more appealing to
busy members. Those interested in working on a committee or any of the work on

Education Committee
Education Committee makes recommendations to the Chapter Board of Directors for
presenters at education events, recruiting and communicating with potential
education presenters, and ensuring that all educational presenters and events
meet a high standard.

Government Relations Committee
advances the interests of the massage profession in the area of
government regulation. This committee may work with other
massage and bodywork associations or groups, massage schools and
training programs, state agencies and departments, lobbyists,
and local governments.

Membership Development Committee
works to attract and retain members. This committee also focuses
on volunteer development and growth, cultivating future Chapter
and National leaders.

Communications Committee
oversees the Chapter’s “public face” as well as its internal
communication. This committee’s work includes the quarterly
newsletter, the web site, media relations, outreach to
non-members (such as massage school owners/program directors,
communities), and assuring consistency in communication with
members.

Outreach Initiative
The Chapter Outreach Team coordinates volunteer
members providing chair massage at public events under the banner of the AMTA-IL. The
goal is to educate the public about the benefits
of massage therapy and to increase the visibility of the massage therapy
profession in a positive way. (Chair Denise Kozel)
Awards Committee ensures
members are recognized for their dedication and tireless support
of the Chapter programs. This committee coordinates the annual
nominations process for awards and selection of recipients.

Conference Committee
plans and implements a designated Chapter
conference. A conference is a one or more day long event designated as such by
the Chapter Board and may include, but not limited to, one or more of the
following: continuing education, meals, entertainment, exhibitors, board of
directors meeting. Currently, the chapter holds two conferences: Illinois State
Conference & Annual Meeting (spring) and Heartland Conference (fall). (Chair
