Continuing Education Requirements
For renewal of an Illinois massage therapy license you must complete 24 hours of continuing education every two years starting with your second renewal period. All courses given by NCBMTB-approved providers or by state approved massage schools/programs will meet this requirement.

For AMTA membership renewal, a member is required to complete 48 hours of continuing education every 4 years. So the first time you will have to complete those hours is by the end of your fifth year of Professional status.

Educational programs used to fulfill this requirement must be an organized education experience directly related to massage therapy, which is offered under responsible sponsorship, capable direction, and qualified instruction. These may be experiential learning, theoretical or research in nature.

The purpose of this continuing education requirement is to encourage continued professional growth of our members and AMTA goals, and the evolution of our profession.

Courses and programs used for state license or national certification renewal may also be used to meet the AMTA continuing education requirement. See IDFPR or NCBTMB web sites for details of their requirements. Many of our Chapter’s AMTA Massage Therapy Schools & Educators members offer continuing education courses. To find out what they are currently offering, go to the list of school members and click on the link for a specific school.

AMTA members can document their CE hours on-line as they are completed by clicking here  or submit paper documentation to the national office, either as courses are completed or at the time of annual renewal.

For further information on the AMTA CE policy, click here to go to the AMTA national site.
